UK Smaller Companies Conference September

UK Smaller Companies Conference

Thursday 17th October | 10:00-12:00 | 2 CPD Hours

Why invest in UK smaller companies?

Smaller companies tend to be under-researched and misunderstood. Their share prices may not fully reflect their fundamental value.

Investing in them may offer attractive returns with the potential to outperform larger companies over time.

This may offer investment opportunities for those willing to do their own research.

The universe of UK Smaller Companies

The Investment Association defines UK smaller companies as those that make up the bottom 10% of the total UK stock by market value.

Fund managers who are active in this space would say that there's a universe of c 2,000 companies to choose from, including those listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM), the FTSE SmallCap and FTSE Fledgling indices, in addition to the lower reaches of the FTSE 250.

The total number of potential opportunities and the wide variety of different industry sectors they represent dwarfs those available to investors focusing on just the FTSE 100 and FTSE 250. For example the FTSE 100 index has 50% in just 3 sectors, CONSUMER STAPLES, FINANCIALS & ENERGY; and 23% in just 3 companies: Shell (SHEL), AstraZeneca (AZN), HSBC (HSBA).

All those presenting at this conference have funds in which you can invest to get exposure to this asset class.

Speakers include:

Abby Glennie, Co-Manager of abrdn UK Smaller Companies Growth Trust plc and Deputy Head of Smaller Companies, abrdn

This conference is suitable for IFAs, Family Offices, Stockbrokers and Wealth Managers and is free-to-attend for employees of regulated investment firms.
